Maharana Udai Singh founded Udaipur in 1599. According to a legen, once when he was out on hunting, he met a hermit who asked him to build a fort at the spot he was standing in. Maharana Udai Singh followed his advice and thus Udaipur was founded.

Udaipur -Must-See Places

If you are in Udaipur for a few days, then do travel to Haldighati, which is 40 kms north of the city. It is as you rightly guessed, the famous battlfield where Maharana Pratap defeated Akbar. You can also check out the historic temples of Nathdwara, Nagda, Kankroli and Eklingji, if you are willing to travel a little. A little further away from Jodhpur is Deogarh, which is 135 kms from Jodhpur. The magnificent though has now been converted into a hotel, it still is worth a visit.

The closest airport is the Dabok airport, which is merely 25 kms from the City center. The railway station is at a distance of 4 kms from the City Center.
